The Journey
Lábúlé is more than a performer — he is a storyteller, drummer, and cultural innovator. With a background in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Lagos and a Master’s in Construction Management from the University of Brighton, United Kingdom, he represents the perfect blend of intellectual pursuit and artistic devotion.

Married to his drums, Lábúlé pioneered Highfro — a vibrant fusion of Highlife and Afrobeat, woven together with both traditional and western percussive instruments.

From a very tender age, music has been his heartbeat. His mother recalls how only the melodies of Chief Ebenezer Obey or King Sunny Ade could soothe his cries as a child. In primary and secondary school, he rose to become head drummer, commanding rhythm with natural ease. While at university, he immersed himself in the artistry of Lagbaja at Motherland and Femi Kuti at the African Shrine, experiences that deepened his creative roots.

During his postgraduate years in the United Kingdom, Lábúlé’s passion reignited as he served as the main drummer in his church choir, further shaping his musical discipline. His journey has been both inspiring and challenging, yet he remains unwavering in his belief:
 “There is no shortcut to success — only hard work and consistency.”

Influences
Lábúlé draws profound inspiration from three musical giants — Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti, and Lagbaja. Their creativity, authenticity, and fearlessness shaped his path and fueled the birth of Highfro.

As a young man at university, he never missed the legendary live sessions of Lagbaja at Motherland or Femi Kuti at the Shrine, soaking in their energy and stagecraft. Their uniqueness taught him the power of staying original, a principle he now weaves into every rhythm and performance.
